An i4 charging error, an iDrive fault and a drivetrain warning require different diagnostic questions. The message alone cannot identify a failed charging unit, motor controller or battery. Charging interruptions
Record whether the problem occurs with AC charging, DC charging or both. Note the station, charge level and exact error. If only one location is affected, that is useful evidence to share with the charging operator as well as the shop. A repeatable problem across locations warrants a vehicle-side evaluation.
iDrive and accessory symptoms
Describe what stops working: only the screen, phone connection, audio, cameras or several systems at once. Tell us whether driving remains normal and whether the issue started after an update or accessory installation. A blank screen does not, by itself, establish a high-voltage battery problem.
Drivetrain warnings and reduced power
Photograph the warning when it is safe to do so and follow its instructions. Do not continue driving against a stop warning. If the car will not enter its ready state or normal operation is unsafe, contact assistance and discuss transport with the shop.
For the diagnostic appointment, the distinction between a stored event and a fault that is currently present matters. Note how often the concern returns and the conditions around it. Avoid clearing warnings merely to see whether they disappear before the technician can review the history.
What a repair decision should answer
- Which symptom was reproduced, and what evidence supports the diagnosis?
- Is further testing required before recommending a component?
- Does the estimate cover diagnosis, repair and any required setup separately?
- How will the original complaint be checked after the work?
