Refreshing an existing engine
“Refresh” is not a fixed list of parts. Establish which assemblies are being inspected, serviced or replaced and which remain outside the scope. The estimate should state the work rather than relying on the label. Existing records and any prior internal work are important context.
Planning a performance specification
Explain intended street or event use, the current configuration and the outcome you want. Ask how the proposed engine work fits the rest of the car and which supporting changes are necessary. A target power figure alone does not define a complete project or guarantee a result.
What to clarify in the engine-build estimate
- Starting condition: what is known about the engine and what remains unknown until inspection or disassembly?
- Included work: which components, measurements, outside services if needed, parts and labor are included?
- Decision points: how will findings that change the scope be explained and authorized?
