Use your BMW’s service display and the maintenance booklet for its model year to determine what is due. There is no single mileage interval that makes every service necessary on every electric BMW. Scheduled maintenance and a new warning message call for different decisions.
Read the due items before booking
BMW uses Condition-Based Service for applicable maintenance on battery-electric models. Compare the displayed date or distance with your invoices. Ask the shop to verify completed work before resetting a reminder. A reset alone does not prove a service was performed.

What remains on the maintenance plan?
- Brakes: friction brakes and brake fluid still need attention even with regeneration.
- Tires: inspect pressure and wear; rotation suitability depends on wheel and tire fitment.
- Filters and checks: follow the applicable cabin-filter and vehicle-check schedule.
- Reported concerns: mention leaks, warnings, charging interruptions and unusual noises.
A battery-electric BMW does not need engine oil changes or spark plugs. A plug-in hybrid still has a combustion engine, so its maintenance list is different.
When should you visit before scheduled service?
Do not wait for a routine reminder when there is a recurring fault or a vehicle instruction to stop. Follow the warning and discuss assistance if the car cannot be operated safely. A concern-based EV diagnostic visit is different from automatically adding battery testing or software work to every appointment.
Prepare the estimate
Bring the VIN, mileage, service-display photos and previous invoices. Ask which work is due under the applicable schedule, which is recommended from an inspection finding and which can be monitored. If history is missing, begin with a review rather than replacing fluids or components solely because the car is electric.
